About Sal

Like father, like son
They say the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree; in the case of Sal Ingiamio, founder of Sal’s Quality Painting and Maintenance, they were right. Sal’s father, a successful barber who for 44 years shunned advertising and relied only on word-of-mouth, played a major role in Sal’s career choice. He not only inspired young in his son to be the best he could be no matter what he set his hand to but also drilled into Sal his business and life philosophies: “You either love what you do and do it well or don’t do it at all,” and “Take responsibility for your actions.”

He also gave Sal his first painting project — painting the shop exterior in white with red trim.

After reading a few painting books, Sal agreed to tackle the project. After all, the shop wasn’t all that big; it seemed like a good place to start.  He visited several paint suppliers to ask his many questions and buy the necessary tools, primers and paints.  One week later, the project was complete.  Customers, friends and neighbors were amazed — this is the work of a first-time painter? they wondered. Sal found that he really enjoyed painting; he also felt much pleasure in receiving so many compliments.

Doing whatever it takes to please
It was that satisfaction in a job well done that encouraged Sal to look for more ways to satisfy others, and not in painting only. During the months that followed his successful barbershop project, many of his father’s customers asked Sal to do painting and handyman projects for them.

Sal found himself handling not only small painting jobs, but also many simple handyman repairs as well as landscaping, window cleaning and pressure-washing…whatever customers needed. He used the money he made to purchase small tools, better brushes, taller ladders, the finest spray equipment and a vehicle to carry it all.

Sal learned by trial and error early in his career; he learned a lesson each time he failed to satisfy a customer completely. And even if he had to redo an entire job, he did so gladly — working until he was sure it met or exceeded his customer’s expectations.  This also meant that Sal quickly learned the correct processes for proper painting and home improvement projects.

Interested in doing the best job possible at the best price, Sal began to research paint applications. And as he learned, he invested in more tools, better brushes, better drop-cloths and so on. He quickly developed a professional assortment of tools for the painting trade — although he did not yet consider himself in the business of “professional painting.”

“Slapping on a coat” just doesn’t cut it
Even so, by the time Sal graduated from school he knew he’d own his own business.  At that time, Sal knew his business would entail servicing the needs of people in his community. But it wasn’t until he bumped into a painting contractor who needed help that he decided to try “professional painting.”

Sal was disappointed.  His boss — the company owner — constantly told Sal to hurry up: “Just slap the paint on so we can get to the next job.”  Sal refused to do such sloppy work; he continued to take his time — and always with astounding results. His lines were always nice and straight; his workspace so much cleaner and less splattered than that of his boss, the “professional” contractor. Customers noticed as well and began to invite Sal back to do more work — without the help of the contractor.

He was apprehensive at first, but before long decided to pursue the opportunity. He knew people deserved to be treated with more respect. And he wanted to provide the best customer service possible to people who needed help around the home.

A business born of passion and determination
It was then, in 1988, that Sal’s Quality Painting was born.  From his office in Scranton, PA, Sal was determined to provide the best painting services with superior customer service to clientele across northeastern Pennsylvania. Not long after, he found himself working five days a week. And after six months of continual work, Sal knew he had found his niche — and in a career he was passionate about.

Today, 19 years later, Sal is still passionate about his career, about customer satisfaction, about the art of painting, finding solutions for client needs and building long-lasting friendships with clients. The same determination that fueled his desire to be in business has continued, bringing Sal to where he is today: loving what he does while serving others.

Headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina, Sal travels the east coast performing painting wherever excellence in art and service is required. He is whole-heartedly involved in each project, and stays in touch for years after a job is complete. Sal also never stops learning, continually attending seminars and trade shows to find new and better solutions to his clients’ problems.

Today, Sal and his company cost-effectively provide the same level of excellence to homeowners of average to elite homes, as well as to the leaders of small and large businesses, apartment complexes, schools and hotels.

He is as dedicated to growing a business that serves the needs of the people in the community as he was 19 years ago, and still provides an extreme level of customer service that’s hard to find — especially from contractors. A whopping 96% of Sal’s business comes from word-of-mouth; he, like his father, shuns traditional advertising. This keeps operating costs low so he can pass the savings on to clients. And because Pride and Passion are in every detail of an experience with Sal’s Quality Painting, Sal stands by his promises and strong, ethical business practices by offering a Complete Satisfaction or Your Money Back Guarantee
